Covid Vaccination Update

Here are some facts and figures about the current vaccination programme. 
There are 11 patients over 80 who have yet to have, but they are accounted for (there are various reasons why they haven't booked.) Some we cannot get hold of but we continue to try.
The housebound patients are almost done but this is still being worked upon (it's a complicated process.)
There are 17 patients 75-79 as yet not vaccinated that we have been unable to contact but who have had letters and/or calls. We will keep trying.
There are 37 patients 70-74 not vaccinated who we have been unable to contact but who have had letters and/or calls. We will keep trying.
There are 64 patients left in the extremely vulnerable category who have not been vaccinated who have either not responded to invites or who have not been able to get hold of. We will keep trying.
There are 17 patients left in the Learning Disabilities category who have had invites but whom we are personally ringing.
There are 274 patients left in the 16 - 64 with underlying conditions category still outstanding. Due to the vaccine supply however the last invites to these patients were only sent earlier in the week. Those we cannot text will be written to shortly.
Those who do have mobiles are being sent text reminders to book.
We have moved on now to the those aged 63 and 64 without any underlying conditions. Those who don't have mobile phones will be contacted by us.
In total 3486 patients have been vaccinated in the last six weeks from our practice alone.
Quite a few patients ring us once they get the text to ask if it's really from us. The text will always say it's from the practice, advise you to look on our website or Facebook and will always have the Practice Manager's name (James Leyland) on it, so you can be assured that it is genuine.

Additionally A new campaign to help staff and patients with mental health has been launched by NHS England. The ‘Every Mind Matters’ campaign includes a website full of expert advice and practical tips. Safe use of emollient skin creams

The MHRA has published updated advice about the safe use of emollient creams, to reduce the fire risk when these products are used. The advice contains reminders of ways to reduce risk, e.g.

Do not smoke, use naked flames or get near to anything which may cause a fire whilst wearing clothing or a bandage that has been in contact with skin creams.

Change and wash clothes and bedding frequently to reduce the build-up of skin cream. However, remember that whilst washing clothing and bedding even at high temperatures might reduce the build-up, it does not remove it completely and the danger may remain. 

 Be careful to make sure the skin cream does not get onto the fabric of armchairs or other furniture, cushions and blankets. Be aware that the cream can transfer from skin onto the fabric of furniture when you are sitting or lying on it.

  Your Mobile Number

The practice will routinely ask you for your mobile phone number (which we shall never divulge to an outside agency without your express permission.) Please do make sure your mobile number is updated. We use this to communicate with you in person and by text message. Examples of why we need your mobile number include:

  • Texting you confirmation of appointments
  • Testing you if appointments have to be cancelled.
  • Sending you messages because blood tests are due.
  • Texting you important information about your care at the practice.

If you wish to opt our of receiving text messages please ask the receptionist to leave a message with the Practice Manager.


  Type 2 Opt Outs

 Type 2 objections instructed NHS Digital not to share a patients confidential information for purposes beyond their individual care. It was recorded in the GP practice record using the following code 9Nu4.

The national data opt-out allowes patients to choose to stop their confidential patient information from being used for purposes beyond their individual care. The opt out has been applied by NHS Digital since 25 May 2018 and by 2020 all health and care organisation must apply national data opt-outs in line with the policy.

Patient who wishes to opt-out from 11th of October 2018 will have to to go the "Your NHS Data Matters" website www.nhs.uk/your-nhs-data-matters where they can find out more about data sharing and set a national data opt-out.

 


  Visit Requests

In order for the GPs and Nurse Practitioners at the practice to effectively plan their day and rounds, we ask that requests for home visits are made before 10.30am. Your usual GP, if they are working, will visit you if the request is made before 10.30. Visits after this may be dealt with by a GP you do not know. We respectfully remind patients that home visits are for the housebound. 


  On line services

There are many ways to contact the surgery to book or cancel appointments and order prescriptions. One of these ways is by registering for our online service especially as we now no longer accept requests for prescriptions by telephone.

  Teaching Practice

We are proud to be a teaching practice, training the next generation of GPs. You may be offered an appointment with our Registrar who is a fully qualified doctor, but one who is now training to be a GP. Our Registrar can call on their mentor (one of the GPs at the practice) at any time should they need to. Their clinical work is also strictly monitored by their GP trainer/mentor. For the purposes of teaching it may be necessary for your record to be reviewed by the Registrar and the teacher/mentor after your appointment or during one of the Registrar's one-to-one teaching sessions with their GP trainer/mentor. Please be aware that access to your records is strictly controlled and in line with our confidentiality policy.
